Standard 8.2a

The RTO must ensure that RPL is offered to all applicants on enrolment

Standard 8.2b

The RTO must have an RPL process that:

  1. is structured to minimize the time and cost to applicants; and
  2. provides adequate information and support to enable applicants to gather reliable evidence to support their claim for recognition of competencies currently held, regardless of how, when or where the learning occurred

Examples of evidence for an
online learning environment

Recognising prior learning

Online services offer a range of possibilities for the implementation of RPL processes.  Initial identification by candidates of skills and knowledge against relevant qualifications can be facilitated through online self assessment tools and electronic submission of the applicant's summary of proposed evidence.

RTOs may support and encourage electronic submission of evidence for RPL purposes.  This is usually, accompanied by other contact and verification with the candidate.

An orientation to RPL is a useful component of online RPL services and can be linked to other assessments.
