Examples of evidence for an
online learning environment

Online learning and staff skills

Staff may need additional skills to facilitate learning in an online environment. For example these might include:

  • Facilitation skills
  • Technical skills
  • Instructional design  skills
  • Managing the online learning environment

These skills may be developed or acquired through a range of strategies including  ‘on the job’ experience and mentoring, PD courses and programs, formal courses.

The RTO may not have all the required skills within their organisation and may use contractual arrangements outside the organisaiton to supply the skills and services.

The demand for these skills is reflected in the growing number of ‘formal’ courses available for teachers to acquire ‘online teaching and facilitation’ skills at a Graduate Certificate, Diploma and Masters degree level.

Larger public RTOs may provide online short courses for their staff in house.

Examples of evidence of compliance might include:

The CV of RTO contractors, project staff  or staff members with qualifications and/or experience in distance education and online learning.

A register of contracted learning facilitators or instructional designers.

Documentation of induction and PD programs indicating preparation for online delivery in areas such as : facilitating groups of learners online, preparing web pages, moderating online forums, technical skills for chat, bulletin board, email lists design of feedback etc.

A staff skill and development register indicating PD activity and skill areas for online knowledge and skill development.
