The VET Learning Object Repository Network (VLORN) is a network of organisations that contribute via agreed standards to enable the discovery and use of learning objects. VLORN was established in 2004 through Australian Flexible Learning Framework funding.
In 2005, the Learning Object Repository Network project seeks to extend VLORN in five areas:
- Extension of interoperability specification: research, develop and implement extensions to the interoperability specification developed in 2004.
- New repositories: provide support for the adaptation of further repositories and inclusion into VLORN
- IP and DRM: build on existing knowledge and research to develop best practice guidelines for implementation in 2006
- Federated network governance: research and establish service level agreements between the participants
- Communication: establish communication strategies and implement in conjunction with other Framework projects.
Currently, VLORN consists of:
- Two internet based Consumer Access Providers:
- One Federated Search Provider: education.au limited
- Four Repository Service Providers: Flexible Learning Toolboxes, Centre for Learning Innovation, TAFE Tasmania and TAFE VC.
