Research

The Research and Policy Advice Project commissions research to support the progression of critical policy changes required to enable sustainable VET e-learning innovation, professional capacity, client engagement and e-learning systems.

Three research papers were commissioned to respond to policy issues targeted by FLAG and to support other Framework programs or projects.

1. Learning on the move, mobile technologies in business and education

Research into the actual use of mobile technologies in e-business and e-learning both nationally and internationally. This research makes a contribution to our understanding of how the knowledge society is currently engaged in terms of these technologies, and investigates our clients at business, learning practitioner and consumer/student levels. There is a focus on the integration of practice via e-business and the market place to e-learning and possible future applications.

2. Sustaining the Momentum - Directions for Interoperability in the VET Sector

This research was a collaboration between the Resources and Innovation Program and Research and Policy Advice Project.

The research reviewed the approach and outcomes of the Australian Flexible Learning Framework's interoperability activities to date, and the progress towards achievement of a well-considered strategy which is adequately informed by other national and international interoperability developments. The research recommends future directions in interoperability for the VET sector.

3. Embedding innovative practices within vocational education and training (VET)

This research was a collaboration between the New Practices Project and the Research and Policy Advice Project.

The research set out to:

  • identify the degree to which sustainable innovative practices have developed as a result of Australian Flexible Learning Framework projects funded through New Practices in Flexible Learning and Innovations during 2002 - 2005
  • identify the factors that have contributed to the embedding of innovative practices
  • inform future decision makers in regard to the considerations and potential impacts of embedding innovative practices, and
  • develop a framework for ongoing embedding of innovative practices to be utilised by future VET organisations.

Researchers: Rod McDonald, Mary Dickie, Jane Figgis

Research documents due early 2006.
