Projects: VET Preferred Standards

About

An initiative of the Australian Flexible Learning Framework (the Framework), the VET Preferred Standards form the basis of an integrated approach for nationally agreed standards-based technical interoperability in the Australian vocational education and training sector.

The VET Preferred Standards deal with technical standards, i.e., hardware and software protocols and information structures which enable communications and information technology devices and software to support the delivery of online learning material to students, operate effectively and efficiently, and allow communication with information technology equipment serving other teachers and learners.

Workshops and other project activities involving representatives from States and Territories engaged in the identification of standards, the use of which would promote interoperability across the VET sector. These standards were approved by the ANTA CEOs and recommended for adoption across the sector. Known as the VET Preferred Standards, the list was updated in March 2003 and are avavilable online.

Directions

VET Preferred Standards initiatives aim to establish a nationally agreed, standards-based environment for the use of online training experiences.

The list of VET Preferred Standards have been adopted within the VET Interoperability Framework (technical component), and further exploration of interoperability issues are being pursued. Visit the Collaborative Interoperability project website for further information.

Resources

Much has been written about Preferred Standards; what they are and what benefits they can bring to you and your organization. Often these documents are comprehensive and they can be overwhelming, especially if you are unfamiliar with standards.

So where do you go if you require detailed information rather than an outline? The resources listed below include the list of Preferred Standards, otherwise known as VET Preferred Standards, that was signed off by the ANTA CEOs.
