Projects: LearnScope 2004
 |
LearnScope provides funding and other learning opportunities
to teams and individuals within Registered Training Organisations
(RTOs) for professional development.
|
|
The LearnScope project aims to inform, encourage and support
the vocational education and training (VET) sector in assisting
to build a critical mass of VET people with the attitudes,
skills and capabilities to apply new learning technologies
to the delivery of services and products.
More about the latest information on the current LearnScope
projects.
|
|
The LearnScope project has been running since 2000 under
the Australian Flexible Learning Framework. The objectives
in 2004 are to:
-
Provide opportunities for individuals and groups of VET
practitioners to access professional development to help
them integrate e-learning approaches into their work with
VET clients.
-
Support individuals and groups in extending their networks
and communities of practice across
diverse groups of VET practitioners for the purpose of
encouraging them to share knowledge and innovation with
others in the field and engage in meaningful, cross-sectoral
collaboration.
-
Provide leadership by promoting and encouraging professional
development practices that enable VET practitioners and
managers to stay abreast of trends, initiatives and key
e-learning developments nationally and internationally.

Designing
a LearnScope Work-Based Learning Team (40 kb)
This resource aims to highlight some of the issues that
contribute to the overall successful functioning of
work based learning teams. Factors examined include
consideration of the skills base of a team, functional
area representation, hierarchy and role, group size,
'ownership' of the learning experience, and learning
models, with some additional truisms for developing
a team that will more than likely function well.

"Our LearnScope project has opened
people's eyes. If people are given a chance, they can
reach great heights.
Most of our team had over 25 years experience in their
study area. The LearnScope project has recharged their
batteries. It has re-energised stale teachers...a bit
like putting a stale crust in the microwave, you can
turn it into a warm, fresh piece of bread!"
Ian McDonald, Fitting & Machining Lecturer,
Challenger TAFE

"LearnScope funding provides a
wonderful opportunity for teaching staff to learn new
knowledge and skills in an environment free from normal
teaching pressures. It may not be long until VET graduates
who have no online experience or knowledge are unemployable.
In coming to grips with the knowledge economy LearnScope
recognises the key role of skilled online facilitators
in engaging students with online experiences appropriate
to their chosen industries."
Bob Bredemeyer, Research & Development Division,
West Coast College of TAFE

can see that it will help our work team immensely. I
really like this website and am looking forward to visiting
often."

"Comments on: What is the most
successful aspect of your team so far?
Team meetings with our facilitator are proving very
valuable. The input of someone removed from the organization
and the daily processes of the project provides objective
feedback. The online mentoring
course was a valuable experience leading to reflection
on ways in which such strategies could be applied to
ELO's activities. Although at
an early stage, even just an enunciated commitment to
the learning required in the area of learning objects,
associated programs and learning styles provides the
impetus to ensure that time is spent each week on these
facets of the project. Although these areas are essential
to ELO's planned development of online services, project
funding ensures that such tasks are not tucked into
the "when we have time" basket."
