Projects: Interoperability

About

Interoperability describes the ability to transfer and use information in a uniform and efficient manner across multiple organisations and information technology systems.

In 2003, the Framework's Collaborative Interoperability Project undertook an environmental scan to assist in the development of the VET Interoperability Framework. The Interoperability 2004 project aims to build on work from 2003 to further develop understanding and commitment to the use of interoperability within the VET sector. Research will continue on relevant topics, including controlled vocabularies, web services, content packaging and intellectual property management.

In doing this, the 2004 project will maintain contact with related initiatives both internal and external to the framework. However, close relationships will be pursued with the Learning Object Repository Implementation project, education.au, EdNA VET Online and the AICTEC Standards and Interoperability Committee.

Objectives

The key deliverables or outputs for this project will be as follows:

  • Access for VET staff to an easy-to-use VET Interoperability Framework website
  • Further standards development to support the Framework in areas endorsed by FLAG
  • Help desk assistance for VET sector personnel on interoperability issues
  • Promotion of the benefits of Interoperability, the website and its standards and solutions
  • VET participation in cross-sectoral interoperability solution development
