Learners Guide- Skills Assessment for Computer Based Learning
ActivitiesThe Skills Assessment for Computer based Learning resource includes activities for a range of skills identified as essential for computer based learning by a broad cross section of Training Organisations across Australia. There are 25 interactive tasks under 11 skill areas. Skill area 1: Identify Computer Hardware Task: Naming Components This is a drag and drop activity which requires you to drag the name of the component and place it on the relevant part of the computer. Skill area 2: Using the mouse Task 1: Mouse Skills This activity requires you to match the application with the action it will produce. Task 2: Mouse Clicks This activity is a test of skill in double clicking the left mouse button. Skill area 3: Using the Keyboard Task 1: Keyboard Skills This activity requires you to match tasks to keys on the keyboard. Task 2: Keyboard Keys This activity requires you to use your mouse to identify keys on the keyboard. Skill area 4: Identify Software Applications Task: Application Selection This activity requires you to match a task with the appropriate software application to complete that task. Skill area 5: Communicate Electronically Task: Netiquette This is a multiple-choice activity to demonstrate the appropriate way to communicate electronically. Skill area 6: Using a Word processor Task 1: Use a Word processor This activity includes multiple-choice and true/false questions Task 2: Icon Identification This activity requires you to click on common icons used in word processing. Skill area 7: Using Electronic Mail (Email) Task 1: Electronic Mail This is a multiple-choice activity to assess your understanding of electronic mail. Task 2: Email This is a true/false activity to assess your knowledge of email. Task 3: Attach a Document This is a multiple-choice activity to assess your knowledge of attaching a document to an email. Task 4: Email Attachments this is an interactive practical demonstration of attaching a file to an email. Skill area 8: Use the Internet Task 1: The Internet This is multiple-choice activity to assess your knowledge of the Internet. Task 2: Web Browsers A multiple-choice activity to assess your knowledge of Web Browsers. Task 3: Browsing This activity is a practical demonstration assessing your ability to identify common icons and features of web browsers. Task 4: Searching This is a multiple-choice activity to assess your knowledge of searching the Internet. Task 5: Enter a Search This activity assesses your ability to enter a search and utilise the information provided. Skill area 9: Maintaining Files Task 1: Starting a New File This activity is a practical demonstration of your ability to start a new file. Task 2: Saving Files This activity is a practical demonstration of your ability to rename and save an existing file to a new location. Task 3: Finding a File This is a multiple-choice activity to assess your ability at locating files on the computer. Skill area 10: Virus Protection Task 1: Virus Protection This is a true/false activity to assess your knowledge of virus threats and methods of prevention. Task 2: Virus Checking This activity is a practical demonstration of your ability to check a file for a virus. Skill area 11: Occupational Health and Safety Task 1: Your Own Needs This is a multiple-choice activity to assess your knowledge of occupational health and safety when working with a computer. Task 2: Your Surroundings This activity assesses your ability to recognise workplace health and safety issues in the computer environment.
