Week 1: Friday – meeting with Legal Advisor

Lyn: "Hello. It’s good to meet you at last. You’ve got a busy time ahead.

Margaret the CEO asked me to help you understand more about the legal issues for the online community space. You already know that the Council is legally defined as a publisher because it hosts a web site and the staff online space."

"This means several things from a legal point of view:

  • The Council takes legal responsibility for everything it publishes
  • It must plan for the legal risks involved in moderating online interactions
  • Council staff must be trained in understanding, identifying and dealing with legal risks, and
  • Incidents that arise from time to time must be dealt with, in a timely and effective manner.

First, let’s look further at the areas of legal responsibilities."
