Induction and Orientation to Specific Course
For a general orientation to university study, there is the Monash Transition Program website, which is aimed at giving useful information and links to both staff and students about the transition to university study.
The new students’ aspect of the website includes videos: Race Around Monash (taken of student life by six students);
Making the Move (also in booklet form), that looks at the issues around and preparation needed for the transition to university. There are also supplementary text materials for this video on the website.
Most if not all of these materials appear to be aimed at Year 12 school-leavers except the Return to Study guide mentioned above.
Orientation to specific subjects is given within each subject area and mostly in the print material sent out to students.
Communication Links (chatrooms, bulletin boards etc.) that are or could be used for SS.
There are web based news and synchronistic chat groups using Web-Face that are subject specific and facilitated by the faculty staff and lecturers. Subject-based websites are also available in some courses.
Lecturers are regularly contactable via email or telephone.
Each student has a My. Monash Portal which gives their personal details and study profile as well as general information such as weather reports, local and national news links and links to other Monash sites.
The Centre for Learning & Teaching Support (CELTS) will facilitate email distribution lists to students wishing to participate.
